Ceravape Hygeia Review from Vape Academy
Time:2015-03-28 Hits:2657 Compile:admin
Hellooo Vapers and welcome to yet another entry to the Official Vape Academy blog! Today we have an amazing new product direct from China! I’m speaking of none other than the Hygeia tank from CeraVape. I was first introduced to CeraVape through their Facebook page, which led me directly to their Twitter account. Now, if you are a follower of the Vape Academy brand, you know that we are huge in the Twitter-verse. While going back and forth with several representatives at CeraVape, I became more and more intrigued with their ceramic wicking system. Admittedly, the ceramic wick seemed a bit gimmicky to me. That is, until I was graciously given the opportunity to test and review the Hygeia tank. Once the details were worked out, the tank was on its way and we at the Vape Academy could not have been more pumped.
The tank arrived in a bubble-wrapped envelope, which housed a rigid, well-made box with the typical CeraVape branding including a full scale picture of the Hygeia tank. Inside, dense foam firmly held the tank, beauty ring and spare coil. The first impressions of the tank and packaging material were impressive. The $40 price tag is on par with the other high-end tanks on the market, namely the Aspire and Kanger tank lines. For the purpose of this review, I am going to rate the Hygeia in 4 key areas: Aesthetics, Build Quality, Value, and Performance. These areas seem to be the most important for vapers, which is a great start in introducing the Hygeia to the masses. So, without further adieu, lets talk about Aesthetics!
**Disclaimer** This tank was meant to compete with tanks such as the Kanger Aerotank, ProTank, Aspire Nautilus, Nautilus Mini, etc. This is not a sub-ohm model like the Atlantis or Sub-Tank and it is not an RBA like the Orchid or Kayfun. With that being said, the Hygeia is being compared to the tanks in its class.
The Hygeia is big, no really big. Boasting a 6ml(8ml if you watch my video) juice capacity the tank is a monster, but by no means obnoxious. The tank is about the same size as a Kayfun RBA and looks great on just about every mod we threw it on. The “knurling” on the sides provides excellent grip and a very cool ‘industrial’ appeal. The top and bottom of the tank section have the “knurled” effect as well as the air-flow control on the bottom of the tank. I use knurling in quotes because it is not true knurling. It is more of a square pattern, which is less gritty than traditional knurling and provides a fantastic feel on the hand. For me, this is one of the coolest looking tanks I own. The clear tank section houses the CeraVape logo and Hygeia label along with juice measurements in Roman Numerals on the opposite side. The shape of the tank is like that of most tanks on the market, but this one stands out as different and for me, looks much ‘cooler’ than the standard Kayfun look. As I said before, the Hygeia has quickly become the best looking tank I own and I am a huge fan of its looks. While the looks might not be for everyone, they are certainly awesome for me. 9/10
With regards to Build Quality, the Hygeia is top-notch. The materials used are stellar from the drip tip to the 510 pin. No cheap plastic here, no, no, the Hygeia uses food-grade stainless steel and Pyrex glass. For the $40 price tag, we would expect materials of this quality and the Hygeia delivers. The seals between the Pyrex glass tank and the stainless steel top and bottom sections are a firm, yet malleable rubber, which provides a great seal when just finger-tight. The threading is also top-notch on the Hygeia so everything screws together perfectly. No crunching or grinding at all, they redefine the term “buttery-smooth”, even the replaceable coil is perfectly threaded and has the same knurling as the outside of the tank. CeraVape claims to have spent over year developing the Hygeia and I whole-heartedly believe that’s true. Every detail seems to be painstakingly thought out, from the miniscule gap between the top cap and drip tip, all the way to the flush, almost zero-tolerance, 510 positive pin. I have yet to find a single flaw with the build quality on the Hygeia, which continues to impress the more I use it in comparison to other tanks I own and use. 10/10
At $40 the Hygeia is at the higher end of the spectrum when it comes to replaceable coil tank systems. However, once you start to handle and vape the Hygeia you realize how much of a bargain $40 really is. Let’s face it, some RDA’s go for upwards of $150 and hold about 10 drops of juice so by those standards the Hygeia is a steal. Now, I realize I am comparing apples to oranges with that one, but hear me out. The Hygeia is an authentic (oooohhh buzzwords) tank with top-notch build quality and superior performance to anything else in the replaceable coil market. This tank could easily go for upwards of $60. At $40 this tank is a real bargain and only makes the overall quality go up in my book. 10/10
Performance from the Hygeia, as I mentioned a few times throughout this review, is well beyond the mark from most in this class. The ceramic wick is truly stunning in terms of performance. The recommended range is 3-4.8 volts and 4-12.5 watts. I found that anything over 4.5 volts will cause an immediate dry hit which was shocking to me. I used the Hygeia on mainly mechanical mods so the maximum voltage was 4.2(realistically 4.0). While vaping on the mechanicals I could NOT get a dry hit. Chain vaping as quickly as I could, long slow draws, even multiple long slow draws would not produce a dry hit. This is due to the truly revolutionary ceramic wick system. The wick is a small white cylinder in which the juice can flow through and vaporize inside. The juice being able to flow through the wick rather than soak into it ensures that there will always be enough juice to vaporize. A truly awesome discovery if you ask me. The flavor was spot on from every juice I tried in the Hygeia. The benchmark in this class of tank was the Aspire Nautilus Mini and for me the Hygeia blew it away. The airflow is about doubled in the Hygeia, which greatly improves the vapor production while keeping maximum flavor. There is truly nothing bad I can think of in terms of performance besides the voltage limit. Any batteries in series will cause the wick to burn on the Hygeia so you Sigelei 100, 150, IPV3, God Mod etc. users better use something with less voltage for the Hygeia. This is not much of a drawback for me as I only have one device that uses more than 4.2 volts. For what the Hygeia was designed to do, it excels and for me is the BEST replaceable coil tank I have come across. 9/10
Well if you can’t tell from my review, I am in love with the Hygeia tank! This thing is truly revolutionary and worth all the hype that CeraVape is working around this ceramic wick system. I’d like to thank CeraVape for the opportunity to review this awesome tank. The technology is really awesome and I pray more uses will be found for this setup. CeraVape already have a Mini version in the works and plans for a sub-ohm version on the horizon!! We can’t wait to get our hands on those two after how impressed we were with the original. Be sure to check out my video review for a closer look at the Hygeia and to see it in action!!
Thanks for reading guys and gals and honestly, if you ever have the chance to use one of these, DO IT! If you have the means to buy one, BUY ONE! You will not be disappointed. This is truly the best tank in this class that I have found.
